Datsun 510 Station Wagon (1968-1973)
Welcome to Datsun 510 Wagon Informational Resource!
The Datsun 510 is also known as the 1600 and the Yue Loon Bluebird 706 in Japan. It was produced in 3 body styles - coupe, sedan and wagon. It has become somewhat of a cult classic or fringe car with a strong niche following in North America, Australia, New Zealand and other regions. A large reason for this is Nissan's limited production run only making the 510 in 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973. This shortage is further complicated by the Datsun 510's heavy usage as a rally and race car which left many of the original cars inoperable. In areas with less than desirable climate, many of the original 510's are so rusted out that a full restoration is required.
Datsun 510 Wagons and other body styles can be found for sale on Craigslist, eBay, Auto Trader classics and other scattered resources. The Datsun 510 features an old school luxury car look and boxy lines reminiscent of high end cars from the late 60s and early 70s. The Datsun 510 was modeled heavily after other luxury cars in the market at the time.
What made the 510 unique was that it afforded three body styles with the wagon being a compromise for car drivers that wanted a balance of storage capacity and performance. The wagon featured various I4 engines and two transmission options.
The wagon market has shrunk today with the introduction of rise in popularity of more SUV models and Crossovers. The 510 Wagon has a retro style that many nostalgic car collectors seek. Although all 510 body styles are highly sought after by rally enthusiasts and classic car guys, the wagon is by far the most popular of the three.
